Rafael Guerrero is an international leader in pediatric and adult congenital cardiac surgery, trainer, innovator and an advocate and promoter of the use of 3D printing and immersive technology in healthcare. Serving as the North West Region’s Chief of Congenital Cardiac Surgery and Director of Cardiac Services at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital; Guerrero leads one of the largest and most successful congenital heart centres in the UK with a culture of continuous quality improvement.

Guerrero is currently the Chair of the Congenital Committee of the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland as well as a member of both the NHSE Clinical Advisory Panel and Liverpool Health Partners CHD Board.

As Co-Founder of the award-winning Alder Hey Innovation Hub and Director of Innovation, Guerrero has been instrumental in establishing the vision and long-term strategy, maintaining his passion for working with companies and academic centers developing cutting edge technologies.

Guerrero has pioneered and disseminated the use of patient-specific 3D printed hearts for pre-operative planning, simulation, communication and education, delivering keynotes in many countries. Guerrero is also an Advisor to various institutions and maintains a position on the Advisory Board for Immerse UK, supported by Innovate UK.
